FVCC Announces Four Finalists for President as Jane Karas Retires

As Flathead Valley Community College prepares for a significant leadership transition, the institution is actively searching for a new president. This comes as President Jane Karas concludes her remarkable 25-year service at the end of the year.

The college has shortlisted four distinguished candidates who are set to visit the campus in September. These visits will offer faculty, staff, and the local community an opportunity to engage with the candidates and learn about their visions for the future of the college.

Meet the Finalists

  • J. Mark Browning: Currently serving as the President and CEO of Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton, Oregon.

  • Daniel R. Czech: The Dean of the School of Applied Sciences at the University of Mississippi.

  • Andrew R. Fields: CEO at the University of Idaho’s Coeur d’Alene campus.

  • Deborah Kish Stephan: Campus President of Hillsborough College’s Brandon Campus in Florida.

These candidates are scheduled to visit Flathead Valley Community College from September 14 to 17. Each will dedicate one full day to interact with the college’s faculty, staff, and the broader Flathead community.

To facilitate these interactions, community forums are organized each day at 8 a.m. in room 128 of the Waccholz Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center. These forums will provide a platform for community members to engage with the candidates directly.

Later in the day, additional forums will be held for faculty and employees, ensuring that all stakeholders at FVCC have a chance to participate in the selection process.
