Pinnacle West Reports Strong Q1 Sales Amid Heat Wave and Industry Growth

Amid record-breaking temperatures, Arizona Public Service’s parent company has reported an unexpected surge in sales for the first quarter. The combination of a heat wave in early months and a boom in industry demand propelled this growth far beyond typical utility performance.

Pinnacle West revealed that weather-normalized energy sales had risen by 9.4%, compared to the same period last year.

According to company executives, the spike was significantly influenced by an increase in commercial and industrial clientele, especially from sectors like the data center and semiconductor industries.

The heat wave led to energy consumption levels that typically don’t occur until later in the year, such as May.

This remarkable growth coincides with APS’s ongoing efforts to secure approval for a 14% rate hike, with hearings scheduled to commence next week.
