Waymo’s Phoenix Service Unaffected by Fleet Recall Due to Software Defect

Waymo Addresses Software Recall Amidst Continued Service in Phoenix

While Waymo has initiated a recall impacting thousands of its vehicles, the company reassures users in Phoenix that their autonomous vehicle services will remain uninterrupted. This move comes after some vehicles navigated into flooded areas during recent storms in San Antonio.

The recall, affecting over 3,700 vehicles, is based on a report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, identifying a software flaw in the fifth Automated Driving System. This system is actively used in Waymo’s fleet serving the Phoenix metropolitan area.

A company representative has confirmed to KJZZ that operations in Phoenix will continue without any disturbances, stating there are “no disruptions” to the vehicles or their services.

In response to the recall, Waymo is focused on enhancing its software with additional safety protocols to better handle extreme weather conditions.
