Absentee ballots have been sent out, early voting is about to begin, and the Michigan primary is just around the corner. With the election date fast approaching, it’s crucial for voters to know the candidates vying for their support in the state’s key races. Here’s a breakdown of the gubernatorial and U.S. Senate candidates’ statements:

Governor’s Race

Michigan’s primary election is scheduled for August 4. Here are the candidates in the governor’s race:

  • Chris Swanson: Swanson, a Democratic candidate, currently serves as the Genesee County Sheriff.
  • Jocelyn Benson: Benson, Michigan’s Secretary of State since 2019, is also running as a Democratic candidate for governor.
  • Perry Johnson: Johnson, a Republican candidate for governor, is a businessman and author who recently spoke to Michigan Public’s Doug Tribou.

U.S. Senate Race
