The Pocket Fire Containment Leads to Ongoing Area Closures Near Sedona
A significant wildfire near Sedona, known as the Pocket Fire, has been largely contained. Yet, the ramifications of the blaze are still being felt, leading to the closure of parts of Oak Creek Canyon and the popular Slide Rock swimming area.
According to Michelle Thompson of the Arizona parks department, the aftermath of the fire has left the area covered in ash, and debris is currently floating in the waters. She stated, “Because there’s not the vegetation and everything that can hold the earth in during these rain events. It’s higher risk for the flash flooding and then it’s not very good water quality right now.”
Due to these conditions, the closures are expected to last until the end of September. The Pocket Fire, as reported, has already consumed more than 27,000 acres. For more detailed updates on the fire containment efforts, visit the official report.
