Airports Brace for a Bustling Labor Day Weekend
As the summer travel season draws to a close, airports nationwide, including Phoenix’s Sky Harbor and Tucson International, are gearing up for a surge in passengers over Labor Day weekend. For many Arizonans, this holiday signals a welcome escape from the heat, but travelers should also brace for possible delays.
Sky Harbor’s spokesperson, Jon Brodsky, advises passengers to take proactive measures to avoid disruptions. “On the web page there, you can see key information on things like security wait times, flights, restaurants, shops, and more,” Brodsky explained. He suggests arriving at the airport two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international flights.
Additionally, Brodsky recommends utilizing the Sky Train and booking a spot in the TSA security line through PHX Reserve to minimize waiting time.
Meanwhile, Tucson International Airport is preparing for one of its busiest Labor Day weekends. Austin Wright, communications director for the Tucson Aviation Authority, reported, “We expect that we’ll have about 5,000 passengers per day at load factors exceeding 85% for the weekend, which means flights will be very full for Tucson airport standards, which, we’re a small airport.”
Wright noted that most travelers are leaving the state, as the high temperatures deter visitors from arriving in Tucson during this period.
