Michigan Gubernatorial Candidate Jocelyn Benson Gains Endorsements from First Responders and Veterans
Michigan gubernatorial candidate Jocelyn Benson recently received significant endorsements from first responders and veterans at an event held in Warren on Monday. Among the endorsing groups was the National Security Leaders for America, with retired Marine Corps Major General Michael Lehnert serving as the nonpartisan group’s Michigan lead.
During the event, General Lehnert highlighted Benson’s track record as Michigan’s secretary of state, emphasizing her commitment to ensuring every qualified voter’s vote counts. He praised her competence and integrity in carrying out this crucial responsibility.
Additionally, the Michigan Professional Firefighters Union announced their endorsement of Benson. President Matt Sahr cited affordability as a key factor in their decision, expressing concerns about Benson’s opponent’s stance on driving up prices and healthcare coverage for working people.
Notably, the event took place at the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 124 in Warren. While this group endorsed Benson, the statewide organization and the Police Officers Association of Michigan have thrown their support behind Benson’s Republican opponent, Congressman John James.
U.S. Senator Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) also attended the event to show her support for Benson. Senator Slotkin highlighted the burden of high energy costs on various sectors of the economy, emphasizing the need for long-term solutions to address these challenges.
In light of recent discussions about potential measures to address rising fuel costs, Senator Slotkin stressed the importance of focusing on sustainable solutions and ending the war with Iran. She criticized the White House’s proposed actions, stating, “You can’t be both the arsonist and the firefighter.”
