Germany has taken a significant step in supporting Ukraine’s military capabilities with the announcement of a contract to supply five Lynx KF41 infantry fighting vehicles. Rheinmetall, the German defense company, revealed that the deal, signed in December 2025, is in the mid double-digit million euro range and represents Ukraine’s involvement in an extensive procurement program.
The Lynx KF41s, equipped with a two-person Lance turret, are tailored to meet the specific needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. These vehicles are expected to arrive shortly, marking a new phase in military cooperation between the two nations. This move follows comprehensive evaluations by Ukrainian forces, who received a single Lynx KF41 for testing in late 2024. Ukraine joins Hungary as the only countries to operate this advanced platform.
Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger expressed gratitude for the trust placed in the company by Ukraine and acknowledged the German government’s financial support for the initial batch. “We are grateful for the trust that Ukraine has placed in us,” Papperger stated. Future plans include establishing production lines in Ukraine, similar to models used in Algeria, potentially encompassing the Fuchs and Panther vehicles.
The Lynx KF41 is designed to rival the American Bradley and Swedish CV90, offering superior protection, mobility, and firepower compared to older infantry fighting vehicles. Germany has consistently been a major military supporter of Ukraine since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, second only to the United States. As of October 31, 2025, Germany had provided nearly €20 billion ($23.3 billion) in military aid, along with €5 billion ($5.8 billion) in financial and humanitarian assistance.
