The upcoming presidential inauguration will feature a unique addition to its traditional parade: the Bobcat Rodeo Team from Montana State University. This marks a significant moment as the team takes part in the “Pass in Review” parade, scheduled to commence at 1 p.m. Mountain time on Monday, January 20.
The historic procession, which follows the official inauguration ceremony, serves as a ceremonial review of military regiments. The parade route extends from the U.S. Capitol, traveling along Pennsylvania Avenue, and concludes at the White House. Montana State University remarked on the parade’s long-standing tradition, which dates back to the inauguration of George Washington in 1789 in New York City.
In December, Montana U.S. Representative Ryan Zinke nominated the Bobcat Rodeo Team to participate in this significant event. The team will be represented by 36 student-athletes, who will ride horses provided by partners located in Washington, D.C.
Head coach Kyle Whitaker expressed his enthusiasm for the occasion, stating, “I think it’s huge. To my knowledge there has never been a college rodeo team in an inaugural parade. It sets us apart, and it shows how embraced we are, not just at the university, but through the whole state.”
The Bobcat Rodeo Team’s journey to and from the inauguration will be fully financed by donors, ensuring their participation is seamless. Following this national event, the team will return to Montana State University to begin their spring rodeo season at the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse from April 10-13.
Montana State University has a storied history in collegiate rodeo, having hosted the College National Finals Rodeo for nearly three decades. Their teams have achieved nine national team titles, 35 individual national championships, and numerous Big Sky Regional crowns.
