Mexican Governors Unite to Defend Sovereignty, Support Immigrants

Mexican Governors Unite to Support Immigrants and Assert Sovereignty

A powerful message of unity and sovereignty emerged from a coalition of Mexican governors, who recently issued a statement defending their nation’s independence and backing the Mexican immigrant community in the United States.

Among the signatories was the governor of Sonora, a state sharing its border with Arizona, demonstrating a regional front of solidarity.

Released on Tuesday, the statement affirms the coalition’s support for the millions of Mexicans residing across the U.S. This comes in response to former President Donald Trump’s pledged mass deportations, which primarily affect Mexican nationals living undocumented in the country.

The declaration underscored Mexico’s status as a “free, independent and sovereign country,” resonating with the sentiments expressed by Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum following Trump’s inauguration.

The joint statement was endorsed by governors from all six Mexican states that share a border with the United States, highlighting a unified stance on both sides of the border.
