In a high-profile military trial, Army Specialist Wooster Rancy has been sentenced to life imprisonment without parole for the premeditated murder of Sergeant Sarah Roque. The chilling case, centered at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri, came to a close in Pulaski Courthouse, highlighting the collaborative efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies.

Rancy, a 22-year-old combat engineer from the 509th Engineer Company, 5th Engineer Battalion, 36th Engineer Brigade, faced a military jury that found him guilty of killing Sgt. Roque. The disturbing details revealed that Roque was shot in the head, her body concealed in a garbage bag, and discarded in a dumpster behind her barracks. This information was confirmed in an Army news release shared with Military.com.

The investigation began after Roque was reported missing on October 21, 2024. Her body was discovered following a search, leading to Rancy’s arrest as cell phone records placed him at Roque’s apartment the day she disappeared. A bullet found lodged in a banana in Roque’s refrigerator was matched to a gun located at Rancy’s residence, solidifying the case against him.

Unveiling the Crime Details

Rancy’s actions prior to the murder were meticulously traced. He was found to have purchased heavy-duty trash bags and zip ties from Walmart and searched online for information about trash disposal. These actions painted a premeditated attempt to dispose of Roque’s body.

Sentencing and Further Consequences

Originating from North Miami, Florida, Rancy will serve his sentence at the United States Disciplinary Barracks in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. His trial was moved to a larger civilian courtroom in Pulaski County due to significant public and media interest.

The military judge also demoted Rancy to the rank of E-1, the entry-level rank in the Army, and ordered a complete forfeiture of pay, along with a dishonorable discharge. Additional charges for obstructing justice included lying to investigators and disposing of Roque’s cell phone.
