Michigan Activists Launch Election Protection Initiative
A group of Michigan activist leaders has recently unveiled a statewide election protection initiative ahead of the upcoming August 4 primary. The Hands Off Michigan Coalition aims to safeguard election integrity, promote voter safety, and ensure that eligible voters can participate in the electoral process without facing any form of intimidation.
Coalition Composition
The coalition comprises grassroots networks, labor unions, and advocacy groups who have joined forces to uphold the sanctity of elections in Michigan. Scott Holiday, the executive director of Detroit Action, emphasized the coalition’s mission to spotlight the importance of free and fair voting in the state.
Response to Voter Fraud Claims
This initiative comes as a direct response to recent baseless voter fraud allegations regarding the 2020 election, which were highlighted by former President Donald Trump in a recent speech. The coalition’s primary objective is to debunk misinformation and assert the fundamental right of every individual to vote without impediment.
Ensuring Election Integrity
While the U.S. Department of Justice has announced plans to monitor voting in various Michigan jurisdictions during the primary, the Hands Off Michigan Coalition is also actively involved in this effort. They are coordinating training sessions for election observers and preparing for potential legal challenges. Furthermore, the coalition is establishing communication channels to swiftly address any interference or issues that may arise during the voting process.
Empowering Voters
Scott Holiday emphasized the importance of voter awareness and encouraged eligible voters to familiarize themselves with resources and information available to them ahead of the election. He mentioned that individuals can access valuable voting information on the secretary of state’s website and trusted platforms like vote.org.
