British Social Media Star Yung Filly Convicted of Assault in Australian Court
In a high-profile case that has attracted widespread attention, British social media star and rapper Yung Filly was found guilty of assaulting a fan in Perth, Australia, following a concert performance two years ago. The verdicts, delivered on Friday, cleared him of more severe charges, including rape and choking.
Yung Filly, whose real name is Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, is a 30-year-old entertainer known for his engaging online presence. He was visibly emotional in the District Court of Western Australia as the jury’s decisions were announced.
Barrientos had entered a plea of not guilty to multiple serious charges, including six counts of rape, three of assault occasioning bodily harm, and one of choking, related to an incident in a Perth hotel room in September 2024.
The identity of the accuser, who was 20 years old at the time, is legally protected. After deliberating for three days, the jury convicted Barrientos of two counts of assault pertaining to claims that he bit the woman. During his testimony, Barrientos described these as “love bites” and denied any intention to cause harm.
While the jury reached a decision on some charges, they were unable to agree on three of the alleged rape charges, leaving room for a potential retrial. Despite the convictions, Barrientos has been granted bail and remains free pending further court proceedings scheduled for August 21.
Before his arrest, Barrientos had been on a tour across Australia, performing in major cities such as Sydney and Melbourne. He was apprehended in Brisbane, just days after the Perth incident, where his tour was slated to conclude.
The prosecution argued that the woman had initially consented to sexual activity but later withdrew her consent due to safety concerns. The court was presented with photographic evidence showing bruising and bite marks on the woman’s face and neck.
Since being charged, Barrientos has been allowed to travel back to Britain for several months under bail conditions.
