In a significant move by Iranian authorities, two individuals associated with the Islamic State have been executed following their conviction on charges of armed rebellion. This development was reported by Iranian state television on Tuesday.
Identified as Mohieddin Abdollahi and Hossein Palani, the men were part of an Islamic State cell that emerged after the group’s territorial losses in Iraq and Syria. This cell had allegedly plotted attacks within Iran, posing a significant threat to national security.
The Iranian security forces acted decisively by locating the cell’s hideout in the rugged Bamo mountain region near the border with Iraq. The preemptive operation resulted in the deaths of several militants and the capture of others. Tragically, three members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard lost their lives during this operation. Authorities reportedly confiscated a cache of weapons, ammunition, and various equipment.
Following the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold their death sentences, Abdollahi and Palani were executed. However, details about the location of the executions were not disclosed by the judiciary.
