A recent legal challenge has been mounted against the Trump administration by a group of immigration judges who were dismissed in a sweeping layoff initiative. The judges claim that their abrupt removal was not in compliance with legal standards.
The lawsuit, initially filed in March and updated this month, contends that the Department of Justice unlawfully terminated judges who had only recently been appointed last December.
On February 14, thirteen judges were dismissed by the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE. The lawsuit argues that the judges underwent a rigorous application and training process. It claims that their dismissals were not based on performance but were instead part of an unofficial reduction in workforce, bypassing necessary procedures.
The plaintiffs are seeking reinstatement to their positions, reimbursement for legal expenses, and additional relief.
