Michelle Obama Responds to Divorce Rumors and Embraces Independence

Michelle Obama Clarifies Marriage Status Amidst Divorce Speculations

Recent whispers about Michelle and Barack Obama’s marital status have been swirling online, fueled by their sparse public appearances together. Addressing these rumors, Michelle Obama asserts her independence and clarifies that her marriage is intact, expressing her freedom to live life on her own terms at the age of 61.

Speculation began after Barack Obama was frequently seen at public events alone, such as basketball games and an exhibition game with Team USA. Michelle has also been attending events solo, leading some to question the status of their relationship.

Notably, Michelle faced scrutiny for not being present at former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral and President Trump’s second inauguration. Her representative cited a “scheduling conflict” for missing Carter’s ceremony but did not address her absence from Trump’s inauguration.

During the Democratic National Convention, Michelle spoke out against former President Trump, accusing him of using fear tactics. “Unfortunately, we know what comes next. We know folks are going to do everything they can to distort [Harris’] truth,” she stated, referencing Kamala Harris as the presidential nominee. “My husband and I, sadly, know a little something about this. For years, Donald Trump did everything in his power to try to make people fear us.” She further commented on Trump’s world view, describing it as “limited and narrow,” making him feel threatened by their achievements and background.

The last public image of the Obamas together was a Valentine’s Day photo in February. Despite the infrequent appearances, they are believed to share their residences in Chicago, Martha’s Vineyard, and Washington, D.C. As private citizens, they maintain discretion over their personal lives.

In a recent episode of the podcast “Work In Progress” with Sophia Bush, Michelle addressed the rumors, emphasizing her newfound independence. “I chose to do what’s best for me, not what I had to do,” she shared. The former First Lady expressed frustration over assumptions about her marriage, stating, “This couldn’t be a grown woman just making a set of decisions for herself, right? But that is what society does to us.”

She further explained her current life choices, focusing on her personal desires. “Now is the time for me to start asking myself these hard questions of, ‘Who do I truly want to be every day?’” she reflected.

Michelle has also ventured into podcasting with her brother Craig, launching IMO (In My Opinion). The podcast steers clear of political discussions, instead delving into topics like friendship and caretaking. Notable guests have included Jay Shetty, Keke Palmer, and Elaine Welteroth.
