Motown Icon Smokey Robinson Faces Serious Allegations
In a shocking turn of events, legendary singer Smokey Robinson, known for his profound impact on Motown music, has been accused of serious misconduct by four women. These allegations have cast a shadow over his illustrious career, raising questions about the environment surrounding his professional circle.
On Monday, a lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court accusing Robinson, 85, of serious offenses including sexual battery, assault, and false imprisonment, as reported by USA Today. The plaintiffs claim these acts were carried out with blatant disregard for their rights and well-being.
These accusations, extending over several years, also implicate Robinson’s wife, Frances Gladney. The lawsuit alleges she was aware of her husband’s actions but did not intervene appropriately. Additionally, she is accused of contributing to the hostile environment through verbal abuse and racially charged comments.
Allegations of Sustained Misconduct and Labor Violations
According to KTLA, the detailed complaint describes a pattern of misconduct that the women consistently rejected. They claim that despite their objections, the behavior persisted, allegedly supported by Gladney.
“Plaintiffs explicitly told Defendant Robinson on numerous occasions that they were not interested in his advances and objected to his forceful, physical, sexual, and harmful conduct,” the complaint states.
The lawsuit further accuses the Robinsons of labor violations such as not providing minimum wage, overtime, or appropriate breaks. Jane Doe 4, one of the plaintiffs, claims she traveled extensively with the couple without receiving compensation, as noted by KTLA.
Concerns about potential retaliation, financial stability, and immigration challenges reportedly deterred the plaintiffs from approaching law enforcement. They seek damages exceeding $50 million, in addition to legal fees and court costs.
