Teenagers Charged with Murder in East St. Louis Family Killings

Tragedy struck East St. Louis, Illinois, as two teenagers face serious charges following a devastating event that claimed the lives of five family members. The shocking incident unfolded across three distinct locations, leaving a community in mourning.

The judicial system is taking severe measures, with a 16-year-old boy being tried as an adult. Meanwhile, a 15-year-old girl’s case is initially being handled by juvenile court, with the potential for transfer to the St. Clair County criminal court, as stated by the county prosecutor’s office.

According to police reports, the shootings, which were described as a “targeted mass shooting,” resulted in the deaths of five individuals and injuries to two others, predominantly on Sunday. The teenagers were apprehended by Illinois State Police troopers in a state park following the incident, as confirmed by Illinois State Police Director Brendan Kelly.

While the court documents have not disclosed any motive, Marcus May, the father of the 15-year-old, shared with local media that the girl was discontent with her family and conspired with her boyfriend, Ja’ymeir Davis, to carry out the attacks.

“I can’t show her no sympathy,” May expressed. “She chose to do this.”

The victims, all closely related to Marcus May, included his nephew, two stepchildren, his mother, and his sister. Their ages ranged from 21 to 74 years old.

Ja’ymeir Davis is facing 12 charges, notably five counts of murder, and is currently detained. The public defender’s office has been assigned to his defense, though attempts by the Associated Press to receive comments from the office went unanswered.

While the majority of the tragic events occurred over the weekend, one victim, May’s sister Cherie May, was reportedly shot days prior, according to legal filings.

Among the grievous acts Davis is accused of, is the murder of Patricia May, Marcus May’s mother, and the dismemberment of her right thumb.
