Pima County Students to Explore Air Quality Through Innovative Curriculum
High school students in Pima County are set to delve into the intricate world of air quality monitoring with a cutting-edge curriculum. This program enables students in grades 9-12 to engage with both real-time and historical data collected from air quality monitors strategically placed throughout Tucson’s school districts.
Central to the curriculum are lessons designed to hone students’ skills in formulating research questions, compiling comprehensive air quality reports, and examining environmental justice issues in Arizona. Additionally, students will learn to utilize Excel for data visualization purposes.
According to Natalie Shepp, the climate and community engagement manager at the Pima County Environmental Department, a total of 20 air quality monitors have been installed in preparation for the program’s launch. These new installations will augment the 15 monitors already operational throughout the county.
