British Entertainer Faces Serious Allegations in Australian Court
In a high-profile case unfolding in Perth, Australia, British rapper Yung Filly, also known by his real name Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, is contesting multiple charges of sexual assault. The trial involves serious accusations, including rape, assault, and choking, following an incident with a fan after a performance two years ago.
Barrientos, aged 30, is currently facing six charges of rape, three of assault occasioning bodily harm, and one of choking related to an alleged event in September 2024. The legal proceedings, held in the District Court of Western Australia, have drawn significant attention given Barrientos’ celebrity status.
The accuser, who was 20 years old at the time of the alleged incident, remains unnamed due to legal protections. Prosecutor Danielle Clarke characterized Barrientos as a self-entitled individual who leveraged his moderate fame to perpetrate violence against a susceptible young woman. Clarke stated, “What could have been and should have been consensual sex quickly escalated into sexual violence and a non-consensual nightmare.”
Defense attorney David Edwardson countered the allegations, criticizing the accuser’s narrative as being filled with “inconsistencies, embellishments, and outright lies.” Edwardson’s closing arguments are set to continue into Wednesday morning, with the jury expected to deliberate their verdicts following final directions from Judge Linda Black.
During his testimony, Barrientos denied allegations of slapping or choking the woman but acknowledged biting her, describing it as a “love bite,” a term he noted is used in England. Barrientos refuted claims that the woman repeatedly asked him to stop, insisting there was mutual affection and no visible blood.
Visual evidence presented in court included photographs showing the accuser with noticeable bruises and bite marks on her face and neck.
The incident allegedly began at a nightclub in Perth where Barrientos met the woman. Reflecting on their initial interaction, he remarked, “The vibes were good and she had a really good energy about her.”
According to the prosecutors, the woman initially consented to intercourse but retracted her consent out of fear for her safety. Barrientos admitted that his bodyguard confiscated the woman’s phone before she entered the hotel room, but he denied any malicious intent, citing privacy protection as a common practice for public figures.
Barrientos, originally from Colombia, was performing a concert tour across Australia at the time of the alleged incident, having performed in cities including Sydney and Melbourne. His arrest occurred in Brisbane, where the tour was scheduled to wrap up.
