Michigan Governor Whitmer Attends World Economic Forum in Davos

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer is currently in Switzerland to participate in the World Economic Forum in Davos. The annual event is known for attracting prominent figures from various sectors, including business leaders, investors, and government officials.

In a statement released by her office, Governor Whitmer expressed her enthusiasm about showcasing Michigan’s economic progress and establishing connections with global leaders at the forum. She emphasized the state’s advancements in innovation, workforce development, and manufacturing, highlighting the positive impact on Michigan residents.

The primary goal of Governor Whitmer’s trip is to attract new investments and encourage the expansion of foreign companies with existing operations in Michigan. Accompanying her is Quentin Messer, the CEO of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), with the trip being supported by an MEDC-affiliated non-profit organization.

Messer stated, “These investment missions provide us with the opportunity to present our ‘Make It in Michigan’ economic development strategy to key decision-makers in various markets and global leaders who are considering Michigan for expansion, innovation, and investment.”

The visit aligns with the Trump administration’s focus on revitalizing domestic manufacturing, a theme that will be addressed by President Trump during his appearance at the conference later this week.

During her time at the World Economic Forum, Governor Whitmer is scheduled to speak to a manufacturing technology group and participate in panel discussions alongside other U.S. governors. One of the panels will focus on the future of electric vehicles, highlighting Michigan’s role in the automotive industry.
