Michigan Supreme Court Justices Seek Reelection in November

Michigan Supreme Court Justices Announce Re-Election Bids

Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justices Megan Cavanagh and Justice Noah Hood have officially declared their intentions to seek re-election in the upcoming November elections.

Cavanagh, who has been serving on the high court since 2018 and assumed the role of chief justice in 2025, highlighted her dedication to justice and improving outcomes for children and families. On the other hand, Hood, appointed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer in May 2025, expressed his commitment to fostering a fair and accessible justice system for all individuals.

Both justices were nominated by the Democratic Party, solidifying the party’s 6-1 majority on Michigan’s Supreme Court. Despite their party affiliations, Supreme Court candidates in Michigan are listed as nonpartisan on the general election ballot.

Notably, Brian Zahra, the sole Republican-nominated justice on the court, is not up for election until 2030, ensuring that the upcoming election will primarily focus on the candidacies of Cavanagh and Hood.

As the general election approaches on November 3, Michigan residents will have the opportunity to cast their votes for the candidates they believe will best serve the state’s justice system.
