President Trump Agrees to Send More Funds for Ice Storm Recovery in Northern Michigan

After a meeting at the White House between Governor Gretchen Whitmer and President Donald Trump, it was announced that additional federal funding will be provided to assist in the recovery efforts in Northern Michigan from the ice storms that hit the region last spring.

The agreement marks a significant development as it follows an earlier decision by the Federal Emergency Management Agency to deny further aid to the region. While the exact amount of funding has not been disclosed, Governor Whitmer expressed gratitude for the extra assistance from the President.

During the meeting, Governor Whitmer also discussed other important issues with President Trump, including efforts to protect the Great Lakes from invasive carp. The governor emphasized the need for funding to enable the Army Corps of Engineers to build a barrier to prevent invasive carp from entering the Great Lakes.

Furthermore, discussions included the potential deployment of a new fighter jet unit to Selfridge Air National Guard Base and an update on the recent deadly tornadoes that struck southwest Michigan.

This meeting between Governor Whitmer and President Trump underscores their collaboration on various critical issues affecting Michigan, showcasing moments of bipartisan cooperation amidst their occasional differences.
