Michigan GOP Selects Likely Nominees for AG and Secretary of State

Michigan Republicans Select Likely Nominees for Attorney General and Secretary of State

The Michigan Republican Party took a significant step in shaping the upcoming November ballot by endorsing likely nominees for attorney general and secretary of state during a convention in Novi.

Doug Lloyd, the Eaton County Prosecutor, secured the endorsement for Michigan attorney general, while Tony Forlini, the Macomb County Clerk, clinched the endorsement for Michigan secretary of state.

Both Lloyd and Forlini emphasized their experience and mainstream appeal, focusing on competence rather than ideology as they aim to win back the executive branch from Democratic control.

While the candidates still need to be formally nominated at the August convention, the early endorsements provide them with time to unite, organize, and raise funds for their campaigns.

The Republican Party sees an opportunity to capitalize on the upcoming elections since Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Attorney General Dana Nessel, and Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson are unable to seek reelection due to term limits.

Despite facing a challenging political environment, GOP campaign consultant Jason Roe expressed optimism, highlighting the importance of strong candidates and effective fundraising strategies in achieving electoral success.

The outcome of the upcoming primary elections in August, where voters will decide on candidates for governor, U.S. Senate, the U.S. House, and the Legislature, will play a crucial role in determining the overall success of the Republican Party in Michigan.
