Measles Outbreak Ends on Arizona-Utah Border After 42 Days No Cases

Measles Outbreak on Arizona-Utah Border Officially Declared Over

The recent measles outbreak that affected areas along the Arizona-Utah border has officially ended, according to statements from public health authorities. The outbreak, which primarily impacted Mohave County in Arizona, has been under control since August of the previous year, with collaborative efforts from the local and state health departments.

Health officials reported that the last case was identified at the end of April, and since then, over 42 days have passed without any new reported infections. This duration satisfies the public health criteria for considering an outbreak concluded.

In an encouraging sign, the Arizona Department of Health Services noted a significant reduction in measles virus presence in recent wastewater samples from the Colorado City area. Notably, 96% of measles cases in Arizona involved individuals who were not vaccinated.

Efforts continue to monitor and manage public health risks as officials remain vigilant in preventing future outbreaks.
