Senate Democrat Elissa Slotkin Under FBI Investigation for Alleged “Seditious Behavior”
A recent development has seen Michigan Senator Elissa Slotkin and five other congressional Democrats facing an FBI counterterrorism investigation following accusations of “seditious behavior” by former President Donald Trump.
The investigation stemmed from a video released by Slotkin and her colleagues, highlighting the right of military and intelligence personnel to refuse illegal orders under the Uniform Military Code of Justice. This led to Trump’s provocative comments on social media, suggesting “seditious behavior” could be punishable by death.
In response to Trump’s statements and the subsequent FBI investigation, Slotkin emphasized that the video was created to address concerns raised by current members of the armed services and intelligence communities. These individuals expressed apprehension about potentially being ordered to carry out actions they deemed illegal.
Slotkin, who serves on the Senate Armed Services Committee, noted the increasing complexities faced by military personnel involved in the Trump administration’s operations against alleged drug cartel activities. She highlighted the challenges posed by a classified legal rationale guiding these operations, which operators may not have access to.
Following Trump’s inflammatory remarks, Slotkin and her colleagues experienced a surge in death threats and harassment, including a bomb threat at Slotkin’s family farm. Despite these challenges, Slotkin maintained her commitment to upholding their beliefs and resisting the normalization of such behaviors.
Slotkin concluded by stating, “I refuse to believe that this is the new normal. I’m not going to accept that.”
