FBI Increases Resources to Tackle Crimes Against Indigenous People

FBI Intensifies Efforts to Address Crimes Against Indigenous Communities

In a significant move to address the growing concern of violent crimes against indigenous populations, the FBI has bolstered its resources in several field offices, including Phoenix. This initiative, known as Operation Not Forgotten, represents a focused six-month campaign dedicated to solving crimes within Native American communities.

Federal authorities have characterized Operation Not Forgotten as the most extensive and concentrated endeavor to date aimed at addressing the crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous people. During this operation, FBI agents collaborated with specialists to tackle over 300 cases. This effort was supported by advanced technological tools, including ground-penetrating radar, underwater cameras, and sonar.

The urgency of this operation is underscored by the ongoing investigations into the tragic murders of two Apache teenagers, Challistia Colelay and Emily Pike. These high-profile cases have drawn national attention, highlighting the critical need for enhanced investigative efforts.
