Dearborn Heights Mayoral Race: Meet the Candidates

Dearborn Heights Mayoral Race Features Two Candidates

In the upcoming mayoral race in Dearborn Heights, Michigan, two candidates are vying for the position left vacant by former Mayor Bill, who was confirmed as the U.S. ambassador to Tunisia earlier this month.

Candidates and Priorities

The contenders are former city council president and current acting mayor Mo Baydoun and city councilwoman Denise Malinowski-Maxwell.

Malinowski-Maxwell, who previously served as city council chair and interim mayor, emphasizes the importance of public safety, disaster relief, and preventing accidents in flood-prone areas of the city. She aims to staff city departments adequately and maintain high property values for residents.

On the other hand, Baydoun, a lifelong resident of Dearborn Heights, focuses on establishing accessible and transparent government leadership. His campaign website outlines plans for online permits, digital tools for residents, and smart water management to reduce utility costs. Baydoun is also committed to supporting local businesses and improving neighborhood cleanliness.

Primary Results and Voter Turnout

Baydoun emerged as the winner of the August primary, but Malinowski-Maxwell expressed concern over the low voter turnout, noting that less than half of registered voters participated. She highlighted the importance of civic engagement and lamented the decline in voter participation.

Upcoming Election

The nonpartisan mayoral election is scheduled for November 4, providing residents of Dearborn Heights the opportunity to choose their next leader.
