Doug Lloyd Announces Candidacy for Michigan Attorney General

Eaton County Prosecutor Doug Lloyd Announces Run for Michigan Attorney General

Eaton County Prosecutor Doug Lloyd has officially declared his candidacy for Michigan Attorney General in the upcoming November 2026 election. Lloyd, a Republican candidate, made the announcement on the podcast The Right Side with Deb Drick, emphasizing his commitment to upholding the law impartially.

During his campaign announcement, Lloyd highlighted his intention to enforce the law without bias, stating, “There are no favorites. You don’t pick one over the other. Your job is to actually take facts and make the determination whether those facts fit a crime.”

In a prepared statement, Lloyd criticized the current Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel for allegedly making politically motivated decisions and suggested that all Democratic candidates in the race shared her approach. Nessel, who is serving her second term and cannot seek re-election, has faced criticism from Lloyd for not adequately supporting law enforcement.

Lloyd expressed his commitment to ensuring that victims’ voices are heard, citing a lack of attention to their well-being in statewide criminal justice reforms. He noted a discrepancy in the focus on defendants’ rights versus victims’ rights, pointing out that the attorney general should advocate for all individuals in the state, including victims.

Joining Kevin Kijewski in the Republican nomination race, Lloyd faces competition from Democratic candidates including Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald, Washtenaw County Prosecutor Eli Savit, and former federal prosecutor Mark Totten.

With over 30 years of experience as a prosecutor, including 12 years as the Eaton County prosecutor, Lloyd believes his extensive background sets him apart from other candidates. He asserted, “I am the candidate that actually has the experience to bring this office back to what it is supposed to be.”
