Pontiac Elects New Mayor and Rejects Tax Increase Proposal
In a recent election, City Council President Mike McGuinness emerged victorious as Pontiac’s new mayor, triumphing over former City Councilor Kermit Williams. McGuinness has outlined his vision to focus on rebuilding public operations, such as ensuring cleaner streets, unclogged drains, and better road conditions in an effort to propel Pontiac forward.
Despite the city’s financial struggles, with a $49 million fund reserve, voters chose to reject a bond proposal that would have marked Pontiac’s first tax increase in over 25 years. This proposed bond aimed to finance the construction of a new library, modernize the community center, and enhance parks and roads within the city.
Meanwhile, in Southfield, incumbent mayor Ken Siver is currently leading by a significant margin against challenger City Council member Sylvia Jordan, with most precincts reporting.
