Amid a significant political shift in Montana, questions arise about Kurt Alme’s past affiliations as he campaigns for the U.S. Senate. Alme’s previous role with a foundation linked to a controversial organization has come into the spotlight, stirring public interest and scrutiny.
Alme’s Tenure at Yellowstone Boys & Girls Foundation
In 2010, Kurt Alme took on the role of general counsel at the Yellowstone Boys & Girls Foundation, the fundraising entity for the Yellowstone Boys & Girls Ranch in Billings. His leadership extended from 2013 to 2017 as foundation president. The ranch is known for providing therapeutic and residential services to at-risk youth, with faith-based treatment highlighted on its website.
Lawsuit and Allegations
In 2018, legal action was initiated against the ranch by a mother claiming her son suffered sexual abuse by peers during his stay from 2013 to 2014. The incidents, involving exposure and assault, were reported by the victim, then aged 10, but allegedly dismissed by staff. A jury awarded the victim’s family $300,000, although the ranch denied any negligence.
Political Ambitions and Speculation
Kurt Alme’s political career includes serving as the U.S. Attorney for the District of Montana from 2017 to 2020 and again from 2025 to 2026. Recently, he filed to run for the Senate seat set to be vacated by retiring Republican Sen. Steve Daines. Notably, Alme entered the race on the same day Daines announced his retirement, leading to speculation of a coordinated effort to limit new candidates.
Both Sen. Daines and former President Donald Trump have endorsed Alme’s candidacy, adding significant weight to his campaign.
