Arizona Faces Potential Repeal of Marijuana Dispensary Laws in 2028

The Future of Dispensaries in Arizona at a Crossroads

As the unofficial marijuana holiday, 4/20, approaches this Monday, a pivotal decision looms for Arizona voters. Approximately ten weeks remain for supporters of a new initiative, known as American Encore, to gather the necessary signatures to potentially reshape the state’s marijuana laws.

The group aims to collect around 260,000 signatures by July 3. Their goal is to put forth a ballot measure titled Sensible Marijuana Policy for Arizona in the upcoming November elections. If successful and approved by voters, this measure would lead to the repeal of state law allowing dispensaries by 2028.

While 4/20 is often leveraged by dispensaries as a strategic marketing occasion, this year it carries additional significance as the campaign to influence Arizona’s marijuana policy gains momentum.

In a related development, the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety plans to address the issue of impaired driving with a news conference scheduled at the Capitol on Monday morning. Their efforts underscore the ongoing concern about the impacts of marijuana usage on road safety.
