Arizona Senate Moves Forward with Utility Reporting Bill
In a significant legislative move, the Arizona Senate approved a bill on Thursday that mandates comprehensive reporting from the state’s primary utility companies. This initiative, targeting entities such as data centers, requires bi-annual reports to be submitted to the Arizona Corporation Commission.
These reports are expected to provide detailed information on the number of new connections and connection requests, aiming to enhance transparency and oversight in utility usage.
However, the bill faced some opposition. Democratic Sen. Mitzi Epstein, one of the three senators who voted against it, argued for broader applicability. She suggested, “Repeal the data center tax incentives, because it’s foolish to keep them any longer. They are no longer needed, they are just a drain on our budget,” expressing concerns over the current fiscal incentives.
Following its passage in the Senate, the bill is set to return to the House for further consideration.
