Art Thief Gets 5 Years for Scottsdale Heist Including Picassos, Warhols

An Audacious Heist Ends with a Five-Year Prison Sentence

A daring attempt to steal valuable artwork from a Scottsdale gallery has led to a significant prison sentence for the perpetrator. Harpreet Singh, aged 33, was sentenced to five years in prison after admitting his involvement in a $250,000 art theft.

Singh’s crime was halted in the midst of execution at the American Fine Art Gallery in Old Town Scottsdale. Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell reported that Singh was apprehended during the heist in January 2024.

The arrest followed a 911 call made by a gallery employee who responded to a burglary alarm. The employee noticed missing artwork and heard unusual sounds from an upstairs office. Upon arrival, police discovered Singh’s BMW parked strategically under an emergency access ladder. They also found burglary tools and several art pieces abandoned on the gallery’s roof. The stolen items included three works by Picasso and two by Warhol.

Singh received a five-year prison sentence with credit for time already served, and will be subject to three-and-a-half years of probation upon release.

Rachel Mitchell remarked on the outcome, stating, “Art heists may seem glamorous in the movies, but in Maricopa County, they end with a prison sentence instead of a dramatic getaway.”
