Mark Brnovich Appointed U.S. Ambassador to Serbia by Trump

Mark Brnovich Named New U.S. Ambassador to Serbia

Mark Brnovich, a former Arizona Attorney General, has been selected as the next U.S. ambassador to Serbia. The announcement was made by President Donald Trump, although Brnovich’s appointment is still subject to confirmation by the U.S. Senate.

Brnovich held the role of Arizona’s attorney general from 2015 to 2023. During his tenure, he emphasized consumer protection, notably securing a multimillion-dollar settlement with Theranos. This settlement provided refunds to over 76,000 Arizonans who received unreliable blood tests from the company.

In 2022, Brnovich ventured into politics beyond his attorney general duties, running for the U.S. Senate. Despite his efforts, he was defeated in the Republican primary. During his campaign, he faced scrutiny for withholding reports from his office. These reports indicated no evidence of voting fraud during the 2020 presidential election in Arizona. Instead, Brnovich released a report casting doubt on President Biden’s victory in the state. Current Attorney General Kris Mayes later made these reports public, affirming that the election was conducted fairly and accurately.

Brnovich’s political career began when he was elected attorney general in 2017, defeating Tom Horne in the primary and later overcoming Democrat Felecia Rotellini in the general election. His focus as AG was largely on consumer advocacy and securing refunds related to faulty products.

Brnovich’s ties to Serbia are personal; he is the son of Serbian immigrants who left the former Yugoslavia. This connection adds a layer of personal significance to his new diplomatic role.
