Scottsdale Restaurant Showcases Arizona’s Baseball Memorabilia Exhibit

Scottsdale’s Tribute to Baseball: A Journey Through Arizona’s Rich Heritage

Baseball enthusiasts in Arizona have a new destination to explore, as a Scottsdale venue proudly exhibits a collection of the state’s cherished baseball memorabilia. Nestled in the heart of what was once Scottsdale High School, Frasher’s Tavern now hosts a captivating showcase of baseball history.

Charlie Vascellaro, a devoted baseball historian, has long envisioned a fixed place for his creation, “The Old Town Baseball Experience.” He describes it as “largely a spring training museum exhibit,” yet it also encapsulates the broader narrative of Arizona’s baseball evolution.

According to Mike Phillips, president of Arizona Baseball Legacy and Experience, Scottsdale’s close ties with baseball are undeniable. “Scottsdale literally grew up around baseball. The original Scottsdale Stadium was built around farm fields in 1956. The city’s population was under 20,000,” Phillips noted. Today, that number has swelled to around 250,000.

Vascellaro’s exhibit extends beyond Scottsdale, reaching back to Bisbee’s pre-statehood days. “I don’t know if people know, but the Warren Ballpark was built in 1910, it’s the longest continuous operational ballpark in the country,” he explained. “If somebody comes in here and looks at that and looks at that display and says they want to go down to Warren Ballpark in Bisbee, then we’re doing our job.”

Frasher’s Tavern also pays tribute to bygone local baseball landmarks such as Don and Charley’s and the Pink Pony, further enriching the visitor’s journey through Arizona’s baseball past.
