At the upcoming Eurosatory show in Paris, AM General, a prominent U.S. defense manufacturer, plans to present its latest advancements in Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs) and the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) A2. These systems are equipped with cutting-edge counter-drone technologies, reflecting the company’s commitment to adapting to modern combat requirements.
AM General’s CEO, John Chadbourne, emphasized the innovative nature of their UGV, describing it as a versatile solution for contemporary battlefield challenges. “With this platform, we’ve been able to demonstrate that autonomous mobile technology can be leveraged for multiple uses including logistics support, casualty evacuation, lethality missions, as well as defensive operation, which we are demonstrating with a Hornet C-UAS remote weapon station at the show,” Chadbourne stated.
The strategic importance of unmanned systems has been underscored by their significant role in Ukraine’s military efforts against Russian aggression. This development aligns with a growing trend among NATO countries, which are increasingly interested in enhancing their capabilities with advanced unmanned technologies.
Ukraine’s defense strategy includes a substantial expansion of its unmanned ground platforms, aiming to deploy 25,000 units this year, surpassing the figures projected for 2025. For more details, visit the original report here.
Meanwhile, Russia’s continued military activities in Ukraine and its assertive stance in the Arctic have prompted European countries to reassess their defense assets. In response, the European Defence Agency organized a series of evaluations for unmanned combat vehicles in Norway’s Arctic conditions, involving participants from multiple European nations including Belgium, Estonia, and Germany.
AM General’s UGV, developed in partnership with Textron Systems and Carnegie Robotics, boasts a robust 250 horsepower engine and a payload capacity of up to 6,000 pounds. This enables it to perform a variety of missions, from logistics and reconnaissance to casualty evacuation and armed overwatch.
Additionally, AM General will display the JLTV A2 at the Paris event, highlighting a newly enhanced version designed for a four-member crew. The latest iteration of this vehicle incorporates over 1,000 technical modifications from the previous A1 model, showcasing significant advancements in military vehicle technology.
