Jannik Sinner’s Parents Decline Royal Box Invite at Wimbledon

Why Jannik Sinner’s Parents Prefer to Skip the Royal Box at Wimbledon

Despite the allure and prestige of the Royal Box at Wimbledon, don’t count on seeing tennis star Jannik Sinner’s parents seated there. Although invited, they opted out of attending his opening match on Centre Court.

While Iga Swiatek, last year’s women’s champion, had her family, including her father and sister, present in the Royal Box, Sinner’s parents chose otherwise. They were extended the same invitation but declined, as Sinner explained after his straight-sets victory over Jenson Brooksby on No. 1 Court.

Jannik Sinner, hailing from a quaint Alpine village in northern Italy, grew up with parents who worked in a ski lodge—his father, Hanspeter, as a chef, and his mother, Siglinde, as a waitress. “I know my parents. I asked them, but it was impossible,” Sinner remarked, noting their preference for other commitments.

He further elaborated, chuckling, “We hardly even discussed it. They have other things to do and I understand that.” Despite their absence this time, they did attend last year’s final, cheering from the player’s box as Sinner triumphed over Carlos Alcaraz for the title.

Interestingly, the Royal Box did host another notable parent during Sinner’s match: David Beckham, who attended with his mother. For more on this story, visit here.
