Serena Williams Set to Play Wimbledon Doubles Despite Knee Issue

In a promising turn of events for tennis fans, Serena Williams seems ready to join her sister Venus on the doubles court at Wimbledon, after a recent knee issue threatened her participation.

Serena, aged 44, and her sister Venus, 46, are set to compete in their first doubles match on Saturday. The match was initially delayed to allow Serena additional recovery time from a knee injury she sustained during her singles match loss.

The Williams sisters are scheduled to face opponents Camila Osorio and Solana Sierra in what remains the only unplayed first-round doubles match at the tournament. The game is slotted for Saturday, with a start time after 4:30 p.m. local time (1530 GMT), likely taking place on one of the tournament’s primary courts following the completion of singles play.

Serena’s knee trouble arose during her singles match against Maya Joint, marking her return to the All England Club after a four-year hiatus. Despite her enthusiasm, the match concluded with a loss for Serena.

Tournament director Jamie Baker explained the decision to reschedule the match, emphasizing the club’s desire to provide Serena “as much time” as possible for recovery. “We want her to play if she … possibly can,” Baker stated on Friday.

Meanwhile, Venus participated in the mixed doubles event on Friday with Kevin Krawietz. Unfortunately, their campaign ended with a straight-sets defeat by Tereza Mihalikova and Lloyd Glasspool.
