Michigan State Senator Mallory McMorrow’s U.S. Senate Campaign Update

Michigan State Senator McMorrow Submits Signatures for U.S. Senate Race

Michigan State Senator Mallory McMorrow (D-Royal Oak) has officially entered the race for Michigan’s open U.S. Senate seat by submitting her nominating petition signatures. The Democratic Senate primary race is shaping up to be a close competition, with McMorrow facing off against Congresswoman Haley Stevens (MI-11) and former Wayne County Health Director Dr. Abdul El-Sayed.

The primary race has highlighted the different political approaches of the candidates, with Stevens focusing on bipartisan solutions as a member of the House Problem Solvers Caucus and El-Sayed championing progressive policies like Medicare for All with the endorsement of Senator Bernie Sanders.

McMorrow’s campaign, on the other hand, presents a blend of both moderate and progressive ideas, advocating for universal healthcare and supporting small and medium-sized businesses. When asked about her political stance, McMorrow described herself as “pragmatic” and emphasized the importance of connecting with voters beyond political labels.

On the Republican side, former Congressman Mike Rogers stands out as the frontrunner in the primary race, receiving significant financial support from the conservative Senate Leadership Fund. Despite the seat currently being held by a Democrat, Gary Peters, who is not seeking reelection, the competitive nature of the race underscores the need for a strong Democratic candidate.

McMorrow, citing her experience in defeating a Republican incumbent in her state Senate campaign, positions herself as the candidate best equipped to take on the challenges of the U.S. Senate race. She joins Stevens and El-Sayed in submitting the maximum number of signatures allowed, signaling the level of support each candidate has garnered.

Furthermore, McMorrow’s campaign emphasizes its reliance on volunteer efforts for collecting signatures, distinguishing itself from campaigns that hire paid canvassers. As the race progresses, the upcoming quarterly campaign finance reports will provide insights into the financial backing of each candidate, shedding light on their early support in the competitive primary race.
