Explosion in Hermosillo Store Kills 23; Investigation Underway

Tragic Explosion in Hermosillo Claims Multiple Lives

An unexpected explosion rocked the heart of Hermosillo on Saturday, leading to the deaths of at least 23 individuals. With the tragic incident occurring in a bustling downtown store, the community is grappling with the loss, which includes several children. As the investigation unfolds, six victims remain hospitalized, according to state authorities.

The origin of this devastating event is under scrutiny by Sonora’s prosecutors’ office, which is currently exploring the possibility that a transformer inside the store might have been responsible. This potential cause is being examined in Hermosillo’s busy central neighborhood, where the explosion took place.

In response to the tragedy, Sonora’s governor, Alfonso Durazo, assured the public through a social media video that comprehensive support—medical, psychological, and social—will be extended to those affected. “No one will face this pain alone,” Durazo emphasized, highlighting the state government’s commitment to the victims and their families.

Despite the intense speculation surrounding the explosion, the state prosecutor reported late Saturday that there is no evidence currently suggesting any intentional cause behind the incident. Efforts to identify the deceased and inform their families continued late into the night, as officials worked tirelessly to manage the aftermath of the explosion.
