Grand Canyon University Transitions to New Food Service Provider, Impacting Hundreds of Jobs
The competitive landscape of campus dining services at Grand Canyon University (GCU) is undergoing significant changes that could affect nearly 500 employees. As the university transitions from its current food service partner, Sodexo, to a new provider, Aramark, the future of these workers is in flux.
With the contract between GCU and Sodexo set to expire in mid-July, the university evaluated proposals from several companies. Aramark emerged as the preferred choice due to its ability to offer cost-effective solutions for students. This decision is part of GCU’s broader strategy to maintain affordable education and living expenses.
Aramark, a well-known player in the food service industry, announced on Monday that it will be taking over the campus dining services, along with managing hospitality programs related to athletics. The company’s strategic partnership with GCU is expected to bring a fresh approach to dining on campus, although the full impact of these changes is yet to be seen.
Despite the impending job loss for Sodexo employees, there is a glimmer of hope. Aramark has expressed a willingness to hire current Sodexo employees working on the GCU campus. To this end, a meeting has already been convened with the affected workers, signaling a potential pathway for job continuity.
