Mexican Business Leaders Support USMCA Ahead of Treaty Review

Mexican Business Leaders Advocate for Stability in USMCA Trade Agreement

As discussions loom regarding the future of the USMCA trade agreement, Mexico’s business community is making its preferences clear. Leaders from various sectors, including agriculture, construction, and tourism, are expressing support for maintaining the current treaty that facilitates trade between Mexico, the United States, and Canada.

The Mexican business sector recently communicated to their government that they value the benefits provided by the USMCA, an agreement that replaced NAFTA under President Donald Trump’s first administration. This stance emerges as President Trump has previously signaled potential changes or even termination of the treaty.

Survey data indicates that over 80% of Mexican business leaders hold a positive view of the USMCA. One of the key advantages of the agreement is the tariff-free status it grants to most goods exchanged between the three neighboring countries.

Next week, Mexico and the United States will initiate formal trade discussions to evaluate the treaty’s future, with Mexican industry representatives advocating for the preservation of the beneficial aspects of the current arrangement.
