Gruesome Discovery in Mississippi: Mother Murdered, Son Charged
In a shocking turn of events, a welfare check in Natchez, Mississippi, led police to uncover a horrifying crime scene involving the death of a local woman. The tragic incident has left the community in disbelief, particularly as the suspect is believed to be the victim’s own son.
Details of the chilling crime emerged this week, shedding light on the events that transpired on April 4, 2026. Officers responded to a call on Melanie Road after the eldest son of Lana Brown Bradley expressed concerns over her well-being, having been unable to contact her.
Upon entering the residence, deputies were struck by the unusual cleanliness and the heavy scent of cleaning chemicals. “As soon as they walked in the house, they could just see where somebody had been cleaning up, and they could smell chemicals all throughout the house. The floor was extremely slippery,” Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten reported to WJTV 12. The eldest son noted that such a scene was atypical, especially since it was the youngest son, Zachary Lavel Jackson, Jr., who had been cleaning.
Jackson was discovered locked in a bathroom, attempting to dispose of incriminating evidence. Deputies noted a disturbing black substance in the toilet. Sheriff Patten ordered an extensive search of the property, which spans two acres and includes wooded areas.
Family members assisting in the search made a grim discovery. “Family members went to the left. My deputies went right,” Patten recalled. “Next thing you know, as both my deputies and the family were trekking through this wooded area, the deputies heard a scream. They heard somebody, someone yelling, ‘It’s a head! It’s a head!’”
Further investigation revealed parts of Bradley’s body in a suitcase, with additional remains found after removing the toilet. “I can say what was in the toilet, and it was her flesh,” Patten stated. It was determined that Jackson dismembered his mother with the intent to obscure the crime.
Interviews with family members revealed that Jackson, 29, was perceived as mentally unstable, and Bradley had been in the process of evicting him. “He had threatened her the day before,” the Sheriff explained. Despite questions about his mental state, Patten believes Jackson acted with knowledge and intent, highlighting his education in precision piping.
Jackson is now facing charges of first- and second-degree murder, mayhem, and tampering with evidence. He is currently held without bond, with a court date set for April 28, 2026.
“This is by far the most heinous crime that I’ve ever witnessed in my entire life,” Patten remarked. The Natchez community is grappling with the aftermath of this tragedy, seeking justice and solace in the face of such loss.
