The tragic discovery of a young woman’s body near an abandoned school has left Philadelphia in shock. The victim, 23-year-old Kada Scott, had been missing for two weeks before authorities located her remains.

Who was Kada Scott?

Kada Scott, a native of Philadelphia, had a promising future ahead of her. The 23-year-old was a Penn State graduate and recently started working at The Terrace at Chestnut Hill, an assisted living facility. During her university days, she was actively involved as a cheerleader and participated in a pageant to become Miss Pennsylvania in the Miss USA competition. More about her background can be found here.

The Circumstances Surrounding Her Disappearance

Scott was last seen on October 4, leaving her workplace. She confided in her family about receiving multiple harassing phone calls, prompting them to report her missing the following day. Captain John Craig of Northwest Detectives noted, “Days prior to her disappearance, Miss Scott related to family and friends that unknown individuals or person had been harassing her via phone. We’re investigating that. We’re trying to learn more,” as reported by ABC 6. Unfortunately, the lack of surveillance cameras at her workplace hindered efforts to determine whom she met after work.

The Search and Discovery

Authorities searched for Scott for two weeks. Details from the AP reveal that while searching the grounds of Ada Lewis Middle School, investigators initially uncovered her phone case and debit card but not her body. It was a specific tip that led them back to the location, where her remains were found on October 18. First Deputy Commissioner John Stanford emphasized the intent to hold those responsible accountable, stating, “We want the people– the person we have in custody and anyone else who may be involved — we want them held accountable to the highest degree of the law for what they have done.”

Suspect in Custody

Keon King, 21, has been apprehended and charged with several offenses connected to Scott’s disappearance, including kidnapping and stalking. Although he has yet to face charges for her death, Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner expressed confidence that homicide charges will soon follow. Krasner remarked, “I am confident that homicide charges will be brought,” but highlighted the need to proceed lawfully. More details on this can be found here.

King’s previous arrest earlier in the year for similar crimes, which were eventually dropped, is now under review. Prosecutor Ashley Toczylowski indicated that there might be others involved in the aftermath of Scott’s death, emphasizing that the investigation is ongoing. Additional information is available through CBS News.

In a heartfelt statement, Scott’s family expressed their grief and gratitude for the nationwide support they’ve received. They stated, “Today, we’ll say her name tomorrow, we’ll say her name, and forever, we will say her name. It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved daughter, Kada Scott.”
