Supreme Court Decision Prompts Call for Tariff Reimbursements
Following a significant Supreme Court decision, Senator Ruben Gallego is pushing for prompt reimbursements to American families and local businesses affected by the Trump administration’s tariff policies.
Nearly a week has passed since the Supreme Court ruled that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) did not grant President Donald Trump the authority to implement his extensive tariff measures. This ruling has cast uncertainty over the future of tariffs, challenging the legal basis for some of the administration’s major trade actions.
In response to this development, Senator Gallego has addressed President Trump in a letter, emphasizing the urgent need for action. He has highlighted that without proper measures, over $100 billion in tariff revenue could remain unutilized in government or corporate accounts, depriving American families and small businesses of their due. Gallego is demanding transparency regarding the tariff revenues and their distribution plans.
Gallego’s letter states, “Since your first invocation of IEEPA to impose sweeping tariffs on countries, Americans have borne the brunt of higher prices. The invalidation of these IEEPA tariffs is a chance to make American families and small businesses whole — not to retain unlawfully collected funds or enable additional corporate profit.”
Adding to the efforts, Senator Mark Kelly is scheduled to visit the Yuma area to understand firsthand the effects of tariffs on border businesses.
