Border Patrol Raid Sparks Controversy at Arizona Aid Camp
The arrest of three individuals during a recent Customs and Border Protection (CBP) operation at a humanitarian aid camp in the Arizona desert has drawn significant attention. The aid camp, run by the group No More Deaths, is situated a few miles from the border in the harsh terrain of the Sonoran Desert.
According to No More Deaths, the camp was subjected to a raid by Border Patrol agents on the Sunday preceding Thanksgiving. This incident marks a departure from previous raids in 2017 and 2020, with accusations that agents entered the property and its trailers without a federal warrant. This alleged breach drew condemnation from Arizona Representative Adelita Grijalva, who criticized the actions on the U.S. House floor Wednesday night.
CBP issued a statement confirming the arrests of two Mexican nationals and one Guatemalan. The agency did not disclose the cause of the raid or clarify if a search warrant was obtained, but noted that the two Mexican individuals have been deported while the Guatemalan is currently under the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), awaiting deportation.
