Arizona’s La Paz County Set to Transform with New Solar Energy Legislation
A significant step towards renewable energy was taken this week as President Trump signed a pivotal piece of legislation, enabling the transfer of federal land to La Paz County, Arizona, potentially paving the way for new energy projects.
The legislation, known as the La Paz County Solar Energy and Jobs Creation Act, was signed into law on Monday. It allocates 3,400 acres of federal land to the county, designated for sale at “fair market value.” This initiative was championed by Republican Congressman Paul Gosar, with support from both sides of the political aisle.
Congressman Gosar, who has long advocated for local control over land for solar energy and storage projects, spearheaded this effort. The land is earmarked for the “Atlas Solar Project,” a vision Gosar has promoted for over five years.
Back in 2020, Gosar successfully secured 5,900 acres in La Paz County for the same solar project. This earlier land allocation was part of a comprehensive 2019 bill also signed by President Trump.
Projects situated on federal land, such as this one, are subject to extensive processes, including thorough environmental assessments. Despite these challenges, Gosar expressed appreciation for the legislative progress, stating, “I’m grateful to President Trump for signing my bill into law. This is exactly how Washington should work — delivering practical solutions that directly benefit the people we represent.”
Congressman Gosar stands out as the most prolific lawmaker among Arizona’s congressional representatives, with this recent legislation marking his ninth bill signed into law over a 14-year span.
