Arizona Cardinals Begin Construction on New Performance Center

In a significant move aimed at revitalizing their training environment, the Arizona Cardinals have commenced construction on a new state-of-the-art performance center and headquarters. The new facility, located in north Phoenix, seeks to address the criticism from NFL players who rated the Cardinals’ current practice amenities poorly in 2025.

Scheduled for completion by the 2028 preseason training camp, the upcoming facility spans a 217-acre site acquired for $136 million. This development marks a departure from the team’s existing base in Tempe, situated about 25 miles away.

Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, “It continues to modernize our facilities. Our facility in Tempe has continued to work great, but we’ve outgrown it. This is going to be awesome for us.”

In response to the team’s last-place finish in the NFL Players’ Association team report cards, primarily due to subpar weight rooms, dining, and training areas, the Cardinals are investing in this new venture to enhance their standing.

Despite the league’s decision to halt the public release of future team rankings due to a violation of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, the new facility represents a significant upgrade. It will feature three outdoor natural grass fields, an indoor fieldhouse with a full-size turf field, and comprehensive training and conditioning spaces.

Enhanced facilities will include a large locker room, cutting-edge training and sports medicine areas, modern dining spaces, and more, ensuring the team can perform at its best even during Arizona’s intense summers.

All-Pro tight end Trey McBride, who secured a $76 million, four-year contract last year, was present at the groundbreaking ceremony alongside teammates Budda Baker, Marvin Harrison Jr., and Elijah Higgins. McBride commented on the new development, saying, “This is a huge thing and shows how much Michael (Bidwill) cares about us and the success of this team.”

Notably absent from the event was quarterback Kyler Murray, whose future with the Cardinals remains uncertain following a season marred by a foot injury.

As part of a broader organizational rebuild, the Cardinals have recently appointed Mike LaFleur as head coach. LaFleur, who previously served as the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams, takes over from Jonathan Gannon.

LaFleur emphasized the importance of the new facilities, stating, “This is going to be home in the near future. All you want out of an ownership group and an owner is a commitment. Not only have you said there’s a commitment, you’re showing a commitment.”

He added, “It doesn’t guarantee wins — it just gives you a chance to put your best foot forward on Sundays.”

In addition to the sports facilities, the site will serve as the hub for the Cardinals’ business operations and will be central to a mixed-use development featuring commercial and residential spaces.

Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego highlighted the project’s impact on local development, stating, “This monumental investment helps create the future we want, because it’s creating a synergy that will bring even more good, quality jobs to Phoenix.”
