Arizona Leaders Push for Increased Rural Health Funding
In a concerted effort to bolster rural healthcare, both Democratic and Republican gubernatorial candidates in Arizona are urging the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to prioritize investment in the state’s underserved areas.
U.S. Representative Andy Biggs, a Republican, has extended an invitation to the administrator of Medicare and Medicaid to visit Arizona. In a letter sent on Monday, Biggs emphasized that Arizona stands out as a deserving recipient of rural healthcare funding. He expressed anticipation for the state to receive equitable funding and seize the opportunity to become a leader in healthcare innovation.
In a related move, Governor Katie Hobbs, along with bipartisan lawmakers, has sought the administrator’s approval for a fresh application seeking approximately $180 million in grants aimed at rural healthcare improvements. This application underscores the state’s commitment to enhancing healthcare access and quality for its rural communities.
The political landscape may see a shift as Hobbs could potentially face a challenge from Biggs in the upcoming gubernatorial election, provided Biggs secures the Republican nomination.
